Before each training session we go through a series of warmups. Here are a couple clips from some of the jumps that are both meant to get the muscles warmed up and continued to build strength while in the "low position".
Technique has improved from last summer but need to continue to work at being stable - especially with the side to side single leg hops.
Last year fellow Oval Program long track speed skater Suzanne Hamilton invited Jacynthe and I to a fundraiser being held at Spur Gastro Pub in Calgary, Alberta. The fundraiser was in support of a schoolteacher turned triathlete: Janelle Morrison.
Janelle is a former teacher who grew up wanting to be a triathlete. While teaching in Taiwan she decided to enter the 2005 Taiwan Marathon, posti ...
It has taken me a little while to get these videos up as a corrupted SD card has thwarted earlier attempts. Here are my last two races of the season and for comparison purposes a video from the early days on the ice.
It is comforting to look at the video of my final races and see so many mistakes. Lots of room for improvement. Definitely happy with how the season finished off and was jack ...
Sunday is my off day. Fortunate to spend the long weekend with friends on Vancouver Island. After yesterday's bike ride it is nice to put our feet up. The day consisted of an Easter morning stroll along the beach with Jacynthe looking for some Easter eggs...no such luck.
I am two weeks into my off season training now and fully back into the swing of things. Volume picks up this week as May ...
Enjoying a weekend with Jacynthe on Vancouver Island. Nice to spend some time in the great outdoors and we managed to get in a gorgeous ride along the West Coast of Vancouver Island today.
Here are a couple pictures from the ride.
Huge thank you to Saucony who, as a sponsor of the 2011 BMO Vancouver Marathon, sent me a new pair of Saucony Progrid Ride 3 shoes.
Excited to introduce these shoes to the Jericho Hill as well as log some solid km's out on the streets of Vancouver.
Thanks Saucony! Very much appreciated! :)

Brock and I were up bright and early today for a double header. Morning imitations session down at Jericho Beach then we have sprints practice later this afternoon.
The protocol for imitations was 4 sets of 3 (2 minutes doing imitation, 2 minute jog). Its 48 minutes of continuous work. The three sets were dryskate, side to side and turn cable.

Hill Sprints Club is still a couple weeks away from getting started but that did not stop Brock from throwing in a 30 second hill sprints program into the mix.
"Today is about character. We set a precedent for how we want to train for the remainder of the summer", Brock told me as we hit the hills.
The normal protocol for Hill Sprints Club is 8 seconds on, 2:52 rest. It takes a couple of ...
So much for my off day. With the sun shining and thousands running the Vancouver Sun Run 10km I was compelled to get out and enjoy the outdoors - especially since my Facebook feed is full of pics of snow in Calgary (TwitPic). Have to enjoy the weather while we have it!
Was great to get a solid ride in with my brother Dave as well as Andrew Mindell and Max Hager. The four of us rode toget ...
