Lactic Capacity Kevin Jagger Long Track Long Shot Speed Skating Blog.jpg

It seems every couple of weeks I am hit with a new "that was the hardest training session of my life". Speed skating is an interesting sport like that. To excel at the sport you must be able to execute at your best when your body is feeling its worst.

A type of training that I have mentioned on here before is called 'Lactic Capacity". It trains your body to execute while your legs are fill ...

Corner Kevin Jagger Long Track Long Shot Speed Skating Canada Blog 2011-09-24.png

Skating down the straight away I think through my mental queues, try and listen to the sounds my blades are making on the ice, look to set up the corner, hit the corner and then pop out on the back stretch carrying the corner as far as I can.

I have done this a couple thousand times now with varying success.

As I stand up to glide around I look over to Coach Abby to get her take on the a ...

Took the GoPro camera with headband mount out on to the Oval ice today to get some video from my perspective.

Buy GoPro HD cameras at GoPro.comThis gives you a chance to see what I see. Kind of cool to see how we skate in trains and take turns "pulling" at the front.

From a coaching perspective the GoPro will be a useful tool. You can see that in the first clip, my 250 metre accel, the camera is not panning to far left t ...

Today was Day 2 of our training camp up in Fort St. John. We are skating in the Enerplex up here, a pretty amazing building that has the long track speed skating oval on the second floor. [Photos]

Starting to feel a little more comfortable on the ice and feel as though I am picking up where I left off last year. Squeezing back into my customs skates has been interesting, think Abby describ ...

I have arrived in Fort St. John, BC for training camp with the rest of my Oval Program teammates. The Oval up here is part of the Pomeroy Sports Centre Enerplex which is a very unique building. It houses two hockey rinks, a long track speed skating oval and a running track in a very unique configuration.

Above is a shot of the Enerplex from the outside.

6 Months of Progress On Ice

February 28th, 2011

As the end of my first season nears I look back fondly at how far I have come since I arrived in Calgary back in September and laced up long track speed skates for the first time. Though I have so far to go I am very happy with my season and am eagerly anticipating my final competition at the Oval Finale March 17-19

I put together a quick video that shows the progression of my technical a ...

The parade of visitors has not stopped in 2011, after having my girlfriend Jacynthe out last week and my brother Stephen, his wife Sarah and son Stu after that it was my Mom's turn this weekend. This was her first trip out to the Olympic Oval since the 1988 Winter Games.
