"Opportunities are multiplied as they are seized" - Sun Tzu, author of the Art of War | Image Credit: Loopy Loop Creations

There are more opportunities that arise each day than we can count, the question is whether we recognize them and pursue them. As the military strategist, Sun Tzu, said "Opportunities multiply as they are seized."

When I speak to athletes, students or businesses on the ...

This weekend my brother Mike and my sister-in-law Margot, along with their 3 kids, came to visit me. Besides taking in my 500m and 1000m time trials on Saturday here are a couple pics from their visit.

With the Team Provident Executive Team in town I thought it was time for an executive workout.

You know what is a pain in the ass?

A pain in the ass.

Over the past two weeks I have been experiencing increased discomfort in the gluteus maximus region. Between my hamstring and my butt cheek there seemed to be a lump developing. At first it started out the size of a raisin and did not bother me too much, but has recently (and quickly) grown to the size of a pool ball.

After consultin ...

Today is National Signing Day. It is the first day a high school senior can sign a binding National Letter of Intent for college sports.

Like the Olympic Games, National Signing Day is the culmination of years of hard work and signals a turning point in a kid's career when they select which post-secondary institution they would like to attend to further their academic and athletic careers. ...

An Oval In My Backyard

January 31st, 2011

When I am out and about I tend to get asked a very similar series of questions with respect to my new "career". Generally ranging from how training is going, what my new diet is like, what its like in Calgary, etc. One question that often comes up is where I live in Calgary.

I live in University of Calgary housing as a part of their "Conference Services" housing. Basically I live where vis ...

Epic Ride for an Epic Cause: 2011 Ride to Conquer Cancer - 300 Spots Left!

January 27th, 2011

Epic is an oft overused term. Not in this case.

I just got an email from the 2011 Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting BC Cancer Foundation. It said there was only 300 spots left for this year's ride!

Unfortunately this year I am not in a financial position to partake in the ride. Each rider is required to raise a minimum of $2,500 - it is NOT as hard as it sounds. Just sign up, th ...

It was a two day journey in the saddle that took us from Vancouver, BC to Seattle, WA with all funds raised going to the BC Cancer Foundation.

Below are a couple vids and a quick slideshow from our journey!

Boostie 101

June 14th, 2010
In many cases you are not near a gym or an oval but you still have to get a workout in. This has happened to me on occasion and I thought there was nothing I could do.... Then, while studying HIST 207 A Canadian History at McGill I came across a cult uprising out of Kingston, ON that became known as the Boostie Revolution and a solution to my problem lay there.

Students at Kingston's Queens ...

Former Olympian Shares His Story

June 11th, 2010
Norm TreriseHad the chance to grab a coffee and catch up with former Olympian Norm Trerise today at the Blenz Coffee in Bentall 5. Norm's step daughter is a friend of my sister-in-law to be and wanted to share his story with me.

Norm was a great young runner and went to the University of Oregon on a full athletic scholarship to compete in the 1 Mile race. After two years with the Ducks and a little succ ...

Birthday Brings Lots of Well Wishes

June 10th, 2010

Birthday Present 2010The idea of a sober birthday was not one I was necessarily looking forward to. Not sure how I was going to deal with all the cheers and general well wishes while not partaking in a libation or two.

Turned out to not be a problem at all and in fact helped to reinforce the strength that I can derive from my tremendous support network. Jacynthe put together an unreal gift that was a framed Olym ...
