Fundraiser for BCSSA at The Mac Shack
Last night I hosted an event at The Mac Shack, a gourmet macaroni and cheese restaurant in Vancouver, to benefit the BC Speed Skating Association (BCSSA). The Mac Shack is one of my personal sponsors and owned by the Tsakumis family who have been amazing supporters of mine since Day 1. Chris Tsakumis and I met a couple weeks back to brainstorm for an event that would get some people out to visit and maybe try The Mac Shack for the first time.
We came up the idea to have me work as a guest chef / server / busser with partial proceeds from the day's orders going to BCSSA.
We promoted the event via social media and got a great turnout with over 100 friends, family and supporters coming out to get their mac on. The food was incredible and atmosphere was great with lots of people hanging around well after their meal was finished to enjoy a pint of beer or glass of wine and chat with friends.
We raised just over $800 on the evening. It was a true win / win as our event resulted in a 51% jump in sales at The Mac Shack compared to a typical Tuesday! Had a great meeting with The Mac Shack today and we are already looking forward to next year's event!
Couple big thank you's go out to the Tsakumis family for their continued support of amateur athletes, The Mac Shack staff who showed me the ropes and were great all night, to my title sponsor Provident Security who sent out a company email offering to cover dinner for any employee that was on duty yesterday and to another one of my sponsors Vancouver Westside realtor Marty Pospischil who popped in to say hello but could not stay so left a donation to the cause! Finally, a huge thank you to all those who took time out of their day to stop in for a great meal in support of BCSSA - thank you!
The most popular dish last night was my personal favourite, the Bacon Cheeseburger Mac:
Shout out to Chad Howse (@ChadHowse) who was the only indidivdual to attempt to take down the 'Jumbo' size Mac & Cheese in a solo effort. He did not come close to finishing but gave a valiant effort! On the plus side he does not have to cook lunch for the rest of the week!
Here are some more photos from the event:
