This weekend was the 2012 CanAm International speed skating competition at the Calgary Olympic Oval - 6 races over 4 days! Trying to build off a strong Oval Invitational I was looking forward to working on new elements of my race plans. Was happy to reset all of my personal bests this weekend:

500m: 38.03, down from 38.16 - 23rd out of 73 competitors
1000m: 1:15.05, down from 1:15.85 - 32nd out of 87 competitors
1500m: 1:56.74, down from 1:58.08 - 39th out of 101 competitors

Today is a recovery day before getting back to business tomorrow in preparation for our first major competition of the season: Canada Cup #1 in Quebec City. It is always fun skating outdoors in Quebec in late November, you never know what the weather will have in store. Here is a little video clip that gives you an idea of the conditions we dealt with last year:

Huge thanks to Calgary photographer Neil Zeller for coming out to our races on Saturday and taking some awesome photos! Here is the complete album.
